We are so excited to announce opportunities for young people this fall! My name is Natalie Philpot and I am the Director of Education at The Dorset Playhouse. We have a lot of exciting things happening - from after-school classes to workshops to auditions. Please feel free to reach out with any questions and spread the word!
At The Dorset Playhouse, we have created a safe and nurturing environment for theater kids to learn, grow, take risks, and gain new skills. We’ve grown so much that we will now be offering both a Beginner/Intermediate class and an Advanced class this fall.
Theater can help young people develop confidence and trust in their choices, and it’s a healthy way to work through challenges in a safe space. This is an opportunity for your performer to take risks, express and challenge themselves in a safe and nurturing environment.

Registration will close when classes are full. Space is limited to 20 youth in each class, so make sure to register today!
After School Class Information

Beginner/Intermediate Students
If you have not taken a class at The Playhouse previously or have introductory experience on stage, then this class is for you! This group will work on the basics of theatrical instruction, play fun theater games, and collaborate to turn their ideas into a performance. This group is appropriate for younger grades and those new to the theater.

When: 4:00 - 5:30 on Tuesdays starting September 29th
Class Dates: September 29, October 6, 13, 20, 27, November 3, 10, 17
Showcase Date: November 20th
Showcase Time: 5:00 - 6:30

Advanced Students
If you have taken a class at The Dorset Playhouse, participated in The Dorset Players Summer Camp, or you have been in more than one theatrical production. This group will work on script analysis, musical performances, and movement. Memorization of the material is required to participate in the advanced group. This group is appropriate for older grades and for those with theater experience. Please come prepared to the first class with a 30-second monologue. Additionally, students who are interested in tech, costuming, lighting, stage management, and production are encouraged to participate.

Youth Audition Workshop
We will offer Youth Audition Workshops on September 20, 2026 from 1-2:30 at the Dorset Playhouse.
Auditions for Willy Wonka and Frozen, Jr. will take place concurrently, and Youth can indicate which show they are auditioning for (they may audition for both shows).
