Audition Notice for Youth Performers (ages 8 to 17)

The Dorset Players are excited to announce auditions for Youth Performers (ages 8 to 17) for our Season 99 production of Disney’s Frozen Jr.!

Audition dates are as follows at the Dorset Playhouse, 104 Cheney Rd., Dorset, VT 05251: 

  • September 22, 5:30pm to 7:30pm

  • September 26, 10am to 12pm

Please Note: We will offer Youth Audition Workshops prior to these audition dates for interested youth. Workshop is set for September 20, 2026 from 1-2:30 at the Dorset Playhouse. In addition, auditions for Willy Wonka will take place concurrently with Frozen, Jr. auditions and Youth can indicate which show they are auditioning for (they may audition for both shows).

We are looking to cast 19 principal & supporting roles plus several ensemble roles. This production has youth performers only. Please note that we will not be double-casting any of the roles. Auditioners must be available for all performances and all rehearsals during tech week, December 7 - 10.

Lead Roles

Anna

  • Description: Energetic, quirky, and fiercely loyal princess on a mission to save her sister.

  • Vocal Range: Mezzo-Soprano (A3–D5).

  • Audition Prep: Practice delivering lines with fast, breathless energy. Be ready to show physical comedy, goofy facial expressions, and a bright, conversational singing style.

Elsa

  • Description: Regal, protective, and conflicted Queen struggling to control her powerful ice magic.

  • Vocal Range: Mezzo-Soprano/Belter (A3–D5).

  • Audition Prep: Focus on strong, sustained vocal control and a powerful chest voice/belt. Be prepared to show a sharp contrast between intense fear and triumphant confidence.

Kristoff

  • Description: Rugged, independent iceman with a hidden heart of gold.

  • Vocal Range: Tenor/Baritone (G2–A3).

  • Audition Prep: Practice a casual, slightly cynical "straight-man" comedic delivery. Be ready to interact naturally with a puppet or imaginary reindeer (Sven).

Sven

  • Description: Kristoff’s fiercely loyal, hilarious reindeer companion.

  • Vocal Range: Non-singing or Ensemble singing.

  • Audition Prep: Be ready for a physical audition. Practice mimicking animal movements, reacting to other actors using only your eyes/head, and displaying high physical stamina. Sven may also be a puppet in our show, so practice your puppetry!

Young Royal Family

Young Anna / Middle Anna

  • Description: Younger versions of the optimistic princess.

  • Vocal Range: Soprano (A3–D5).

  • Audition Prep: Show boundless childhood curiosity and playfulness. Practice singing with pure, clear tones and reacting with absolute wonder.

Young Elsa / Middle Elsa

  • Description: Younger versions of Elsa discovering her magic and withdrawing from the world.

  • Vocal Range: Soprano (A3–C5).

  • Audition Prep: Focus on conveying big emotions through quiet restraint. Practice showing the transition from happy playfulness to sudden, overwhelming fear.

King Agnarr & Queen Iduna

  • Description: The dignified, loving rulers of Arendelle who try to protect Elsa.

  • Vocal Range: Spoken or Ensemble singing.

  • Audition Prep: Focus on clear diction, excellent posture, and a warm, parental presence. Be ready to anchor the dramatic, serious opening of the musical.

Comedic & Supporting Roles

Olaf

  • Description: The innocent, magical snowman who loves warm hugs and summer.

  • Vocal Range: Tenor/Baritone (F3–D5).

  • Audition Prep: Bring 100% pure joy and optimism into the room. Practice speaking with a bright, expressive voice, and be ready to show oversized, animated physical movements. Olaf may also be a puppet for our show, so practice your puppetry! 

Prince Hans

  • Description: Charming and handsome prince who secretly harbors villainous, ambitious motives.

  • Vocal Range: Tenor/Baritone (G2–B3).

  • Audition Prep: Practice looking and sounding like a traditional, perfect fairy-tale prince. Be ready to instantly switch to a cold, calculating, and villainous tone for the twist scene.

Duke of Weselton

  • Description: Pompous, paranoid, and narrow-minded dignitary looking to exploit Arendelle.

  • Vocal Range: Spoken or Ensemble singing.

  • Audition Prep: Show off your most dramatic, over-the-top character choices. Practice an eccentric accent or a funny, stiff way of walking, and be ready for a brief movement or dance audition.

Oaken

  • Description: Jolly, booming, and ultra-positive mountain shopkeeper.

  • Vocal Range: Baritone (G3–C#4).

  • Audition Prep: Practice a warm, thick Scandinavian accent and a booming, welcoming speaking voice. Be ready to lead a high-energy, rhythmic song ("Hygge") with massive enthusiasm.

Mystical & Feature Roles

Pabbie & Bulda

  • Description: Wise and mystical leaders of the Hidden Folk.

  • Vocal Range: Deep spoken or Ensemble singing.

  • Audition Prep: Practice a grounded, rhythmic style of speaking. Be ready to show a warm, maternal/paternal authority and comfortable rhythmic movement for "Fixer Upper."

House Staff (Kai, Gerda, Bishop)

  • Description: Loyal servants who run the castle and handle the coronation.

  • Vocal Range: Spoken / Ensemble.

  • Audition Prep: Focus on creating a distinct personality in just a few lines. Practice standing at strict attention, reacting to the chaos around you, and using crisp, formal diction.

Ensemble Roles

Townspeople & Hidden Folk

  • Description: Merchants, castle guests, and magical rock spirits.

  • Vocal Range: All ranges needed.

  • Audition Prep: Be ready to sing confidently in a group and learn simple, energetic choreography. Practice reacting actively to the main action on stage even when you don't have lines.
