Quality community theatre since 1927
The Dorset Players' continued their 82nd season of community theatre with "The Patchwork Girl of Oz", a delightful musical adaptation of the classic children's story by L. Frank Baum. Proudly sponsored by Haskins Gas, Bairlein Landscaping and the Vermont Country Store, performances were held on December 4 and 11 at 7:30 p.m. and on December 5, 6, 12 and 13 at 2:00 pm.

L. Frank Baum, of course, wrote "The Wonderful Wizard of Oz". Nowadays, many might not be aware that in response to a huge demand from young readers, Baum published an additional twelve Oz novels and even more Oz stories.

In "The Patchwork Girl of Oz", Ojo, a young munchkin, and Scraps, a patchwork doll brought to life, must traipse through various lands in Oz in order to gather the ingredients for a magic potion that will undo a spell that has turned Ojo’s uncle into stone. Along the way, they encounter a myriad of creatures, as well as familiar characters such as the Scarecrow, Tin Woodman, and Princess Ozma.

Director Kevin O'Toole and Music Director Joanne Beck marshaled a talented cast from nine Vermont towns. Newcomer Sarah Solari of Bennington played Ojo, and Abigale Lamberton of Middletown Springs, who portrayed young Mary Lennox in last season's production of "The Secret Garden", took on the role of Scraps, the Patchwork Girl. They were joined on-stage by many young veterans of previous holiday productions, including Martha Degnon of Danby and Frances Yackel of Rupert, who played the Scarecrow and the Tin Woodman, respectively.

Kya Davis of Manchester donned her tiara as Princess Ozma, while Owen Barclay, who played the title role in 2008's production of "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory", portrayed the Woozy.
